Abstract

The transformation of the international order has shifted security concerns from strictly military domains toward economic, technological, and environmental dimensions. Global supply chains have become strategic instruments of power, particularly in semiconductors, energy, and critical minerals. This article examines the role of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN) in identifying and mitigating strategic vulnerabilities related to resource geopolitics and climate change. Based on recent scholarly literature (2018–2025) and documentary analysis of Brazilian strategic guidelines, it argues that Brazil’s distinctive position lies in the centrality of environmental assets within contemporary sovereignty. The article proposes the concept of Strategic Environmental Intelligence as an analytical framework integrating geopolitical monitoring, economic security, and climate risk anticipation, contributing to debates on intelligence reform and strategic autonomy.

Author Biography

Pedro, São Paulo State University - UNESP

PhD candidate in History at PPGH - Unesp Franca/SP, he holds a Master’s degree in History from the same university, specializing in Politics: Actions and Representations, with a focus on the Greek tragedies of Sophocles. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in History from the Faculty of Sciences and Letters of Assis (FCL UNESP Assis). Currently, he is a teacher in the state public school system in the city of Primavera, São Paulo. He completed an academic exchange program at the University of Oviedo, in Asturias, Spain, where he studied for five months. He is a member of the 'Center for Ancient and Medieval Studies' (NEAM) research group at UNESP.
