Abstract

Studies about women´s contribution to Intelligence Activity often consist of biographical recollections of female pioneers or curiosities about their great deeds; this work, in a different approach, aims at providing a perspective on daily practices that constrain women's careers. Under-representation in strategic positions, silence about gender issues in corporate architecture and the persistence of preconceived ideas and stereotypes are discussed in this article, which also recognizes – however for now excluding them from the analysis – the other conditions which, added to gender, would make the evaluation of impacts even more complex, such as ethnicity, age, bodily conditions, socioeconomic status. The present study concludes that supporting gender-based characteristics as determinative of propensities is a trap both for men and women.
